ConnecTechAsia2018 Show Review
ConnecTechAsia2018 – Asia’s mega technology event premiered with much acclaim from attendees. Held from 26 – 28 June 2018, ConnecTechAsia encompassed 3 focused shows – BroadcastAsia, CommunicAsia and NXTAsia, and represented the convergence of technologies and industries. Across 2 venues and a total of 67,000sqm, the event welcomed close to 40,000 attendees from around the world.
The event kicked off with a high-level Opening Address by Mr S. Iswaran, Minister for Communications and Information of Singapore and continued with content-rich keynotes by Alibaba Cloud International, Google Cloud, Singtel, Mediacorp, BBC Worldwide, Netflix, Telenor Connexion and more.
Throughout all 3 days, both venues witnessed a whirlwind of action with the presence of more than 1,800 exhibitors from 52 countries / regions, including 40 international group pavilions, 4 technology-dedicated zones and more than 20 complimentary activities.
Level 1 of Marina Bay Sands featured Asia’s largest contingent of satellite companies, including major players like AsiaSat, Atos, Eutelsat, Work Microwave and more.
Visitors caught the latest products and solutions as they were treated to more than 900 product launches at ConnecTechAsia2018.
At NXTAsia, Huawei demonstrated their latest smart city solutions for enterprises and held a 3-day seminar – eco-Connect alongside the event.
Hands-on demonstrations at BroadcastAsia allowed visitors to get a feel of the capabilities of the product / solution and gave them a chance to forge valuable connections with exhibitors.

Engaging sessions were held at Big Bang Unconference ‘Rise of the Machines. Can You Manage It?’, which covered topics on esports, blockchain and AI.
Thailand Connect was co-organised by the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) of Thailand. Themed ‘Thailand 4.0 – A Way Forward’, the session discussed the new business opportunities in the country.

ConnecTechAsia Summit 2018 wrapped up with a power-packed 3-day event of networking sessions, comprehensive thought leadership presentations, C-level expert sharing, peers and industry insights.
With the inaugural rebrand of CommunicAsia, BroadcastAsia and NXTAsia under ConnecTechAsia the overarching theme of “Experience the Future”, saw close to 900 industry professionals from across the globe and typically APAC congregated to hear from a stellar line-up of 210 speakers. C-level dialogues, panel discussions, in-depth case studies and fire-side chats shared practical insights on hyper-convergence, the next wave of frontier and innovative technologies, digital business transformation and how partnerships and strategic B2B collaborations will shape the future of the digitalised business value chain and accelerate the evolution of tomorrow’s ecosystem.
The Summit kicked off on Day One with an opening ceremony graced by Minister S Iswaran to the show. The joint morning plenary saw tech giants and heavyweights taking the stage echoing the Summit’s theme “Digital Business Transformation”, starting with Alibaba Cloud’s opening keynote, Google’s The Age of AI presentation, Netflix’s Fireside Chat and Telenor Connexion IIoT Case Study Session. This was followed by a CXO Panel gathering industry leaders from Singtel, Mediacorp, Eutelsat, CDNetworks and BBC Worldwide to address how they are spearheading digital transformation within their organisation.

Day Two’s morning plenary saw greater anticipation from the audience as the session opened with a keynote presentation on “When Machines Fight Machines: Cyber Battles & the New Frontier of Artificial Intelligence”. A key highlight for that morning was the high-level policy and regulatory landscape panel “The Stakeholders Agenda – Where Should We Travel To?” which saw a strong mix of industry players comprising of, Infocomm Media Development Authority, Facebook, Starhub, PLDT Smart and SAP addressing the cross-sectoral hurdles, cooperative efforts between industries in a converged ecosystem, and why industry policy should be marketplace driven and not fir-for-purpose.
11 dedicated Summit tracked conferences (NetworkComms, BroadcastMedia and EmergingTech) ran across the 3-day event at 2 venues, with parallel sessions covering 5G, IoT, Future of TV, IP Broadcasting, Smart Cities, Cloud and Data Science, Social Video and Network Virtualisation, 4K/UHD, AI/ML, Blockchain, Immersive Realities, Satellite Communications and new business monetisation strategies.
The Summit ended with much anticipation of how technologies will continue to shift business operations, strategies and the wider hyperconverged ecosystem of the future. With endless networking and discussions, interactive exchange of thoughts and ideas and business dealings, the summit garnered positive reviews and new recommendations from speakers, participants’ about their insightful takeaways and hope about what’s in store for the future and beyond.
