Prasan de Silva graduated with a BE (Hon) Electrical Engineering from Canterbury University in 1994. He later completed a ME (Electrical) also from Canterbury University in 2001. Prasan has worked for Spark NZ since 1995 on Mobile systems covering D-AMPS, cdma2000, UMTS , LTE, 5G and voice networks covering the PSTN to IMS. He is currently involved in the planning for 5G deployment, Proof of Concepts and Beyond 5G planning. Prasan has led the end-to-end architecture development at Spark covering Mobile and IMS (voice) networks for the last 15 years.
Prasan has represented Spark on several international forums and standards bodies, including Fixed-Mobile Convergence Alliance, IEEE and ITU-T organisations. Prasan has been keynote speaker at IEEE ATNAC 2010 and 2013 and has run tutorial sessions for industry professionals at Massey University. Prasan is a Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE).
He serves as a Honorary Research Associate with the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Victoria University of Wellington. Prasan has been involved in post-graduate research supervision at Canterbury University and Victoria University and has been guest lecturing at Otago, Canterbury and Victoria Universities in New Zealand over the last 15 years. His research interests are in 5G and beyond and the application of ICN in mobile architectures.
