AS ESIM GROWTH SURGES, TRUPHONE IS ENSURING OPERATORS ARE READY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE
Whether we are aware of it or not, almost every consumer smartphone that is coming to market these days has an eSIM included as standard. And for your next smartphone, the probability of inclusion is even greater.
But it doesn’t stop at smartphones. There is a whole new breed of devices that are also utilising this eSIM technology. When it comes to children, for instance: the first smart device your kids will own may not be a mobile device – it could be a Watch.
Industry-shifting trends like this are all being powered by eSIM.
And yet, despite all this, there is a resistance to more widespread adoption. Our latest figures have shown that 66% of the industry believes operators are to blame for holding back eSIM adoption overall. But in reality, it’s more complex than that. The data also reveals a lack of availability further up the supply chain: operators too cite availability as a key barrier to implementing the technology, with 48% claiming it as a challenge; second only to cost. This points to a problem not with operators but with their suppliers—likely their SIM manufacturers who now must juggle the production of traditional plastic SIMs with the provision of eSIMs.
New players have emerged to tackle this bottleneck, built for eSIM-first delivery.
At Truphone, we provisioned our very first eSIM in September 2018 and as we entered 2021, we eclipsed a total of 10 million eSIM activations. Our technology is helping over 500,000 new eSIM devices connect each and every month.
The latest figures outlined in a new report by Counterpoint Research have shown that, despite being a relatively new player, Truphone is now among the top three eSIM integrated players, globally and leads the charge as the most complete end-to-end eSIM solution on the market.
