CONNECT WITH: NICOLE MCCORMICK
Hi Nicole, please introduce yourself.
I am Senior Principal Analyst at Omdia, hailing from the Broadband, Bundling and Pricing team. This year marks my 10th year with the company, originally an Ovum alumni. Based in Australia, I keenly watch the Asia Pacific region as a whole, with latest research including, 5G consumer monetization, pricing models for 5G, and innovation around the fixed broadband bundle.
What are some criteria that you’ll be looking out for the awards?
I’ll be looking for a clear indication of the innovation and what’s in it for telcos – lower costs, incremental revenues, improved efficiencies etc. All of this needs to be detailed realistically, and with timelines. The best way to demonstrate “what’s in it for telcos” is through real-world examples of trials or implementation, and measures of success.
COVID-19 saw industries make a huge shift toward digitalization. How will poorer countries, particularly in SEA keep up when not everyone has access to such technologies? Do you foresee an even bigger gap in the standards of living as the world becomes increasingly digital?
No, not necessarily. It may happen in some countries, but a lot of emerging markets have very limited pre-digital systems in place, so they can move straight into the digital area. On the other hand, if we look at health care as an example, some developed markets, are challenged moving to a fully digital model, with huge legacy systems in place (e.g. paper files).
Will ConnecTechAsia be the first fully virtual event you’ll be attending/speaking at? How do you feel about the show going virtual?
The new way of connecting is virtual – I do many webinars and client presentations this way. It’s a nice way to stay connected and to keep the brainstorming. We need events such as ConnecTechAsia to generate debate, spur new ideas and ways of thinking about key issues.
Finally, what do you like doing in your spare time?
What’s that? With three teenagers in the house, all avid sports and dance fanatics, I am the family taxi driver! Seriously speaking, I enjoy my classes at the gym but don’t ask me to do burpees!
