Dr. Min Sun is Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) Scientist of Appier. He joined Appier from National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), where he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Dr. Sun has worked under some of the most influential AI leaders, including Andrew Ng, Fei-Fei Li and Silvio Savarese. He contributed crowdsourcing ideas to the revolutionary ImageNet project led by Fei-Fei Li in 2009, and he is also an early contributor to the Robot Operating System (ROS) and Microsoft Kinect’s human pose estimation system.

Dr. Sun was on the team led by Fei-Fei Li, working on the revolutionary ImageNet project in 2009. He also holds 2 U.S. patents. In 2017, he led a summer research project featuring creativity in AI with Appier, which was subsequently accepted by the prestigious AAAI 2018. In the past three years, he published 22 top AI conference papers from Taiwan.

His areas of expertise are computer vision, natural language processing, deep learning, and reinforcement learning, while his research interests include 3D object recognition, human pose estimation, scene understanding, video understanding, and text summarization.

In 2016, Dr. Sun won the Digital Drift Best Paper on Deep Learning for Visual Analysis (1st and 2nd place). From 2015-2017, Dr. Sun has won CVGIP Best Paper Awards three times in a row. He is also the latest recipient of the Creative Young Scholar Award from the Foundation for the Advancement of Outstanding Scholarship in Taiwan. Before joining NTHU, he was a postdoctoral fellow in Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington.

Dr. Sun received his Ph.D in Electrical Engineering: System from the University of Michigan and his M.S in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Prior to working at GPF, Shapiro worked at Stratfor for five years, where he directed the company’s operations center for over three years before deciding his heart really lay in analysis. For another two years after that, Shapiro was Middle East/North Africa analyst at Stratfor before deciding to leave to start GPF in 2015. Shapiro manages GPF’s analyst team and also manages its overall analytical processes.

Dr. Soldani has been active in the ICT industry for more than 20 years, successfully working on 500+ research, innovation and customer services projects for 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G ICT systems and services, and contributing to 1000+ quality deliverables – from strategic research and innovation strategies, business and work plans formulation, to modeling, simulations, emulations and proof of concepts of innovative solutions, products and services with partners and customers, globally.
He is currently at Huawei Technologies, serving as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in Australia and ICT Expert within the Southern Pacific Region. Areas of his responsibilities and expertise include, but not limited to: future wireless, network, big data value, artificial intelligence, IoT and Cloud technologies.
Prior to that, he was at Nokia, as Head of 5G Technology, e2e, global, and in various technical and research management positions. Before rejoining Nokia in 2016, he was for eight years at Huawei European Research Centre, Germany, serving as Head of IP Transformation Research Centre (IPTRC), Head of Network Solution R&D and, subsequently, Head of Central Research Institute (CRI) and VP Strategic Research and Innovation, in Europe; and represented Huawei in the Board of Directors of The 5G Infrastructure Association (5G-IA) and NetWorld2020 European Technology Platform (ETP), in Europe.
He has been selected many times to receive special awards in recognition of his role, commitment, professionalism, and outstanding contribution in the ICT industry; and in 2016, he was granted a Distinguished Talent (DT) visa for his profession by the Australian Government. He has published or presented numerous international papers, contributed to the publication of many books and development of 3GPP Release 98-Release 16 standards, and holds several international patents.

He has been working on the research and development of radio access networks, core networks, consumer devices and services.

He has worked for NTT and NTT DOCOMO since 1982, acquiring more than 30 years of experience. Mr. Onoe has a master’s degree in electronics from the Kyoto University Graduate School of Engineering.

Harris Chan holds concurrent appointments as the Chief Digital Officer and Chief Technology Officer at ST Engineering, a global technology, defence and engineering group specialising in the aerospace, electronics, land systems and marine sectors.

He currently leads ST Engineering’s digitalisation efforts, focusing on the development of deep and core digital technologies to transform the Group into a data-driven and digital organisation. In addition, he plays a lead role in shaping the organisation’s R&D portfolio and is responsible for driving its IP strategy. Mark has over 35 year experience in the communications sector and is originally from United Kingdom where he spent 15 years in the Royal Air Force working on Airfield Navigational aids, including terrestrial microwave links. After retiring, Mark spent several years working with Continental Microwave as the Senior Installation and Commissioning engineer, working on Terrestrial Microwave links and SNG vehicles that were designed and built there. He was also responsible for the alignment/type approval of antenna systems that the company built.

Mark relocated to the United States in 1998 where he took a position with ETM Electromatic working as the Customer Service Manager where he worked closely with many of the SNG vehicles in the United States as well as the major Television Networks maintaining their satellite link operations.

Mark then left the satellite industry to work with Coherent Medical and their laser hair removal systems. After Coherent medical sold its laser division, Mark started his own business consulting in the Satellite arena, where he focused on regulatory requirements in the US and helping SWE-DISH obtain its FCC license for its small IPT VSAT terminal. Mark then took on a role at SWE-DISH as the Director of Operations quickly moved into the SVP of Engineering. Following two acquisitions Mark then took on the role of Senior Director of Engineering for Cobham Satcom – Land Systems where he spent two years developing a complete new set of products, focusing on micro-terminals, flat panel arrays, COTM, with a major focus on X and Ka-Band.

Mark also undertook the Cobham divisional high potential candidate course after only 7 months in the position.
Mark joined Inmarsat in 2011 where he took on the role of Director User Terminal Development for Global Express and now Mark is the Vice President Product Development and has the responsibility for all terminal product development and product strategy including the 5-year technology roadmap for Inmarsat.

Mark has a degree in Electrical Engineering, a Satellite Communications degree, a MSC in Electronics, an MBA (Liverpool) and is also a member of the IEEE in the US, the IET in the UK and is actively involved in the Global VSAT Forum (GVF) and Satellite Industry Association (SIA) in the US.

Mark is also now on the Board of Directors for the SIRG (Satellite Interference Reduction Group) representing Inmarsat.

She started her athlete career while she was studying Mass Communication in University of Indonesia, as she competed in SEA Games 1979, 3 ASEAN Championships, 1 Asia Championship, and 2 World Championships.

Linda then started her sports journalist career by founding Kompas Sports Tabloid “BOLA” in 1984, which she also wrote for. She shifted to Sportcast Production in 1991, joining Indonesia’s first private TV station Rajawali Citra Televisi Indonesia (RCTI). In 11 years of dedication, Linda came up with live production of 4 Olympics since 1992, 3 Asian Games since 1994, 6 SEA Games since 1991, 3 World Cup Soccer since 1994, 3 Thomas Uber Cup since 1996, and Indonesia Moto GP in 1996. Not only a producer, she was also the Acquisition Manager for RCTI’s Sport Programs.

As a national athlete, in addition to her passion in Journalism & Sportcast, Linda was trusted to be the Head of Media PR in Thomas Uber Cup 2008, the director of Broadcast Asian Beach Games Bali 2008, the director of Broadcast Sea Games Jakarta Palembang 2011, the director of Broadcast Islamic Solidarity Games Jakarta Palembang 2013. Recently, she was again trusted as the director of Broadcast 18th Asian Games Jakarta Palembang 2018.

In 2017, he led a summer research project featuring creativity in AI with Appier, which was subsequently accepted by the prestigious AAAI 2018. In the past three years, he published 22 top AI conference papers from Taiwan.

His areas of expertise are computer vision, natural language processing, deep learning, and reinforcement learning, while his research interests include 3D object recognition, human pose estimation, scene understanding, video understanding, and text summarization.

In 2016, Dr. Sun won the Digital Drift Best Paper on Deep Learning for Visual Analysis (1st and 2nd place). From 2015-2017, Dr. Sun has won CVGIP Best Paper Awards three times in a row. He is also the latest recipient of the Creative Young Scholar Award from the Foundation for the Advancement of Outstanding Scholarship in Taiwan. Born in 1973. He has been working in NHK since 1997 and started his career in NHK at Morioka bureau in Iwate prefecture. Then he moved to News production and Network operation division in Tokyo in 2001. He had got involved in Emergency, earthquake and tsunami broadcasting system and build up the international contribution network for news programs. He also had engaged in planning and setting up the international distribution network for NHK WORLD JAPAN and NHK WORLD PREMIUM as a technical director in JIB, Japan International Broadcasting Inc. Now he works at Network Operation Center in NHK and in charge of 4K/8K and IP transmission.

He has been engaged in the Migration to the digital terrestrial television broadcasting(HD) ,and
the improvement of radio broadcasting networks with interference from signal fading, and the new planning of extensive radio broadcasting networks.

Prior to that, Yew-jin spent 16 years at Avid Technology, where he managed Sales, Pre-sales, Professional Services, Product Marketing and Customer Support teams across APAC, working closely with broadcasters, cable operators, post and production facilities to provide solutions that help them reach their business and operational objectives.

Yew-jin had extensive television production experience prior to joining Avid, having worked as a television producer and video editor in broadcast stations and post-production houses.

He holds a BS in Motion Picture studies from the University of Miami.

Nicholas has chaired multiple national initiatives, including one with the Ministry of Education to have students reimagine education and work for Singapore’s next 50 years as well as an ASEAN youth event. Nicholas has also been invited to judge an Innovator Awards in Silicon Valley, the ASEAN Youth Creative Industry Fair and led a national delegation to the Nanjing Youth Olympics on the invitation of China’s Vice Premier.

He is currently the Chairman and Co-Founder of Singapore's Cybersports and Online Gaming Association (SCOGA), an ecosystem builder for Singapore esports.

Barbara Lange joined SMPTE as executive director in January 2010. Founded in 1916, SMPTE is the global standards and membership association that supports the technical framework and professional community who make quality motion imaging available to consumers in a variety of media formats. Ms. Lange’s portfolio includes executing on the SMPTE Board of Governors’ strategic vision and to ensure the Society’s continued relevance in an ever-evolving media ecosystem. During Ms. Lange’s tenure membership has grown by 30% globally, more than 200 leading-edge industry standards have been published, and the Society has educated thousands of professionals on critical technical topics.

Today, Ms. Lange’s focus is implementing a newly approved 3-year business plan that will further SMPTE’s visibility and relevance with an emphasis on attracting a younger and more diverse membership demographic. SMPTE has been recognized for its technical excellence with many awards including both Emmys and Oscars by the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, respectively. In 2015, Ms. Lange led the partnership arrangement between the Hollywood Professional Association (HPA) and SMPTE; she now also serves as the HPA executive director. The HPA is a leading trade association focused on the application of technology in the creation, distribution and consumption of professional media content. Together, SMPTE and HPA address the needs of technologists and creatives within the professional media ecosystem.

Ms. Lange holds a BA in Chemistry and German from Washington and Jefferson College, and has completed the Executive Development Program at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Prior to joining SMPTE and HPA she was an executive in scholarly publishing with roles at respected organizations such as Springer-Verlag and the IEEE.

As Technology Vice President in the CTO Office at Dolby, Patrick Griffis is charged with helping define future technology strategy for the company which includes identifying and tracking key technical trends, performing technical due diligence, and supporting advanced technology initiatives for the company. He has been an active company spokesperson on the topic of next generation imaging and in particular, “better pixels” - a term he coined for High Dynamic Range plus Wide Color Gamut and chaired the SMPTE ST 2084 drafting group which standardized the PQ curve.

Before joining Dolby, Pat spent 10 years at Microsoft leading global digital media standards strategy, including standardization of Windows Media video technology as an international SMPTE standard.

Prior to Microsoft, Pat spent 15 years at Panasonic in senior management positions, including Vice President of Strategic Product Development at Panasonic Broadcast where he drove Panasonic’s HDTV strategy for the US.

Pat started his career at RCA Consumer Electronics Division, earning eight patents in TV product design.

A SMPTE Fellow, Pat currently serves as SMPTE President. He also serves as Vice President on the Board of the Ultra-HD Forum. Pat is Dolby’s Board representative in the UHD Alliance, as well as, Vice Chair of its Interoperability Working Group. Pat served two terms as President of the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society and is a member of the IBC Council, an industry executive advisory group to the IBC Board. He is also a member of the Academy of Digital TV Pioneers. Pat holds a BSEE degree from Tufts University and an MSEE from Purdue University.

In 2018, W12 joined forces with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to establish and grow TCS Interactive’s centre of excellence for design.

After graduating a Bachelors in Economics from Harvard and a Masters in Architecture from Princeton, Fabian worked as a management consultant. His interest in architecture translated into an interest in digital space and a career in UX Design. After roles in major New York agencies, Fabian served as Head of Service Design & Strategy at the BBC and Director of UX at Intel in London before founding W12.

Fabian has received the D&AD Yellow Pencil, the F1 Connectivity Innovation Award and the TV of Tomorrow’s Individual Leadership Prize. He is also an Intel Capital mentor.
