Dr. Min Sun is Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) Scientist of Appier. He joined Appier from National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), where he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Dr. Sun has worked under some of the most influential AI leaders, including Andrew Ng, Fei-Fei Li and Silvio Savarese. He contributed crowdsourcing ideas to the revolutionary ImageNet project led by Fei-Fei Li in 2009, and he is also an early contributor to the Robot Operating System (ROS) and Microsoft Kinect’s human pose estimation system.

Dr. Sun was on the team led by Fei-Fei Li, working on the revolutionary ImageNet project in 2009. He also holds 2 U.S. patents. In 2017, he led a summer research project featuring creativity in AI with Appier, which was subsequently accepted by the prestigious AAAI 2018. In the past three years, he published 22 top AI conference papers from Taiwan.

His areas of expertise are computer vision, natural language processing, deep learning, and reinforcement learning, while his research interests include 3D object recognition, human pose estimation, scene understanding, video understanding, and text summarization.

In 2016, Dr. Sun won the Digital Drift Best Paper on Deep Learning for Visual Analysis (1st and 2nd place). From 2015-2017, Dr. Sun has won CVGIP Best Paper Awards three times in a row. He is also the latest recipient of the Creative Young Scholar Award from the Foundation for the Advancement of Outstanding Scholarship in Taiwan. Before joining NTHU, he was a postdoctoral fellow in Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington.

Dr. Sun received his Ph.D in Electrical Engineering: System from the University of Michigan and his M.S in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Jacob L. Shapiro is the Director of Analysis at Geopolitical Futures (GPF). Prior to working at GPF, Shapiro worked at Stratfor for five years, where he directed the company’s operations center for over three years before deciding his heart really lay in analysis. For another two years after that, Shapiro was Middle East/North Africa analyst at Stratfor before deciding to leave to start GPF in 2015. Shapiro manages GPF’s analyst team and also manages its overall analytical processes.

Shapiro often appears as a speaker at international conferences and regularly briefs corporate clients on geopolitical risk. His work has been published in numerous outlets besides GPF, including Horizons Journal of International Relations, the Valdai Discussion Club, and Limes Italian Geopolitics Review. He is currently at Huawei Technologies, serving as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in Australia and ICT Expert within the Southern Pacific Region. Areas of his responsibilities and expertise include, but not limited to: future wireless, network, big data value, artificial intelligence, IoT and Cloud technologies.
Prior to that, he was at Nokia, as Head of 5G Technology, e2e, global, and in various technical and research management positions. Before rejoining Nokia in 2016, he was for eight years at Huawei European Research Centre, Germany, serving as Head of IP Transformation Research Centre (IPTRC), Head of Network Solution R&D and, subsequently, Head of Central Research Institute (CRI) and VP Strategic Research and Innovation, in Europe; and represented Huawei in the Board of Directors of The 5G Infrastructure Association (5G-IA) and NetWorld2020 European Technology Platform (ETP), in Europe.
He has been selected many times to receive special awards in recognition of his role, commitment, professionalism, and outstanding contribution in the ICT industry; and in 2016, he was granted a Distinguished Talent (DT) visa for his profession by the Australian Government. He has published or presented numerous international papers, contributed to the publication of many books and development of 3GPP Release 98-Release 16 standards, and holds several international patents.

Mark has over 35 year experience in the communications sector and is originally from United Kingdom where he spent 15 years in the Royal Air Force working on Airfield Navigational aids, including terrestrial microwave links. After retiring, Mark spent several years working with Continental Microwave as the Senior Installation and Commissioning engineer, working on Terrestrial Microwave links and SNG vehicles that were designed and built there. He was also responsible for the alignment/type approval of antenna systems that the company built.

Mark relocated to the United States in 1998 where he took a position with ETM Electromatic working as the Customer Service Manager where he worked closely with many of the SNG vehicles in the United States as well as the major Television Networks maintaining their satellite link operations.

Mark then left the satellite industry to work with Coherent Medical and their laser hair removal systems. After Coherent medical sold its laser division, Mark started his own business consulting in the Satellite arena, where he focused on regulatory requirements in the US and helping SWE-DISH obtain its FCC license for its small IPT VSAT terminal. Mark then took on a role at SWE-DISH as the Director of Operations quickly moved into the SVP of Engineering. Following two acquisitions Mark then took on the role of Senior Director of Engineering for Cobham Satcom – Land Systems where he spent two years developing a complete new set of products, focusing on micro-terminals, flat panel arrays, COTM, with a major focus on X and Ka-Band.

Mark also undertook the Cobham divisional high potential candidate course after only 7 months in the position.
Mark joined Inmarsat in 2011 where he took on the role of Director User Terminal Development for Global Express and now Mark is the Vice President Product Development and has the responsibility for all terminal product development and product strategy including the 5-year technology roadmap for Inmarsat.

Mark has a degree in Electrical Engineering, a Satellite Communications degree, a MSC in Electronics, an MBA (Liverpool) and is also a member of the IEEE in the US, the IET in the UK and is actively involved in the Global VSAT Forum (GVF) and Satellite Industry Association (SIA) in the US.

Mark is also now on the Board of Directors for the SIRG (Satellite Interference Reduction Group) representing Inmarsat.

She started her athlete career while she was studying Mass Communication in University of Indonesia, as she competed in SEA Games 1979, 3 ASEAN Championships, 1 Asia Championship, and 2 World Championships.

Linda then started her sports journalist career by founding Kompas Sports Tabloid “BOLA” in 1984, which she also wrote for. She shifted to Sportcast Production in 1991, joining Indonesia’s first private TV station Rajawali Citra Televisi Indonesia (RCTI). In 11 years of dedication, Linda came up with live production of 4 Olympics since 1992, 3 Asian Games since 1994, 6 SEA Games since 1991, 3 World Cup Soccer since 1994, 3 Thomas Uber Cup since 1996, and Indonesia Moto GP in 1996. Not only a producer, she was also the Acquisition Manager for RCTI’s Sport Programs.

As a national athlete, in addition to her passion in Journalism & Sportcast, Linda was trusted to be the Head of Media PR in Thomas Uber Cup 2008, the director of Broadcast Asian Beach Games Bali 2008, the director of Broadcast Sea Games Jakarta Palembang 2011, the director of Broadcast Islamic Solidarity Games Jakarta Palembang 2013. After roles in major New York agencies, Fabian served as Head of Service Design & Strategy at the BBC and Director of UX at Intel in London before founding W12.

Fabian has received the D&AD Yellow Pencil, the F1 Connectivity Innovation Award and the TV of Tomorrow’s Individual Leadership Prize. He is also an Intel Capital mentor.
